One third of the way, so far very good. Hope to get along as well the rest. Weather very calm and cloudy, thermometer 85 in the shade. Mr. Mason able to hobble round a little today.

We have a goat now that gives us milk enough for breakfast and tea. She knows the steward and I pretty well. We have also got a tame deer, he comes regularly to the cabin door for something to eat. He is particularly fond of apples, eats three and four every day. He looks into the cabin so knowing at me, until I go and feed him he won’t stir. Trippy and Charlie are great friends until she tries to take a bone from him, then Charlie shows his temper, I wonder what dog would not.
