Friday, August 14th, 1868

My dear husband with our friend Capt. Cooke has gone to see our unfortunate neighbours and find out if then can render them any assistance. This is my first experience of an earthquake, but not the last as we have felt several since but nothing to equal the one on the 13th., and I trust never will feel the like again.
