I quite thought we should get in last night, but it commenced to blow and rain fearfully; of course the ship had to be kept off till daylight. I am in such a fever of excitement, no sleep the last three nights, so it is no wonder. I am anxiously looking for our letters and newspaper. Looking over the California Atlas, the first thing caught my eye was the burning of Barnum’s Museum.

Just been on deck to take a look around. The Bay is very handsome and picturesque but not so handsome as N. York. Had a note handed me by the newspaper reporter from our friends insisting on our going there.

Thurs. Even. Came ashore where we received a true and hearty welcome to the land of nuggets, which I felt very sensibly.
