Morning. Chincha Islands at last and anchored. Capt. Soule kindly came off to see us as soon as the anchor was down.

Daytime. Chinchas. Not a very desirable looking place to pass three months in, however we must make the best of it. After pass some few weeks here we find it is not so miserable a place after all, everyone tries to make themselves as agreeable as possible visiting each other on board ship; sometimes spend the day, again only make a call, or to an invited party, sometimes a surprise party. With such agreeable society it is astonishing how swiftly the time passes. I expect we shall feel sad when the times comes to bid adieu to our friends.
