Calm again all night and morn. This afternoon a little improvement so hope to have a breeze soon. Distance to noon 66 miles.

Had a sheep killed on Saturday – it was excellent. The mariners got half of it. I presume they are glad when Sund comes around, to get their fresh mess, very little satisfies me this hot weather. It has been pouring the last two hours so we shall have another good supply of water.

6 p.m. No going on deck tonight. Capt calls this the “Sailors’ Doldrums”, nothing but calms and heavy rains. I should say it is well named.
